In the example video below, a diverse classroom of students, with varying mathematical skill levels, use the Essential Mathematics Intervention program to learn, practice, and develop a deeper understanding of the essential mathematical concepts in 4th grade through accurate, valuable instruction rooted in research based conceptual understanding using models with a gradual progression toward the abstract understanding of algorithms. Thus empowering students and building their mathematical confidence to think and attack all mathematical concepts and challenges in the future. In addition, the E.M.I. program gives teachers the much needed opportunity to focus on the lowest achieving math students, in an intensive small group format, meeting them at their current mathematical levels in an effort to develop those concepts needed to achieve success on the 4th grade essential skills. Therefore, effectively closing the gap in mathematical understanding for all students.
